One year ago, I made the uncomfortable decision to start writing a serial. I have always been nervous to start one because I didn’t know if I could commit to writing new chapters multiple times a month.
I’m happy to say that I did it. It’s been one year, and I've stayed committed to writing two new chapters a month. (Okay, except December, where I only posted one new chapter.🤪)
No Rules Required was started on a simple idea. I didn’t have a plan, and I most certainly didn’t plot the story. That’s why the synopsis was vague, and I left the story open. I wasn’t sure if it would be a small-town romance, romantic suspense, or even fantasy.
Now, here we are, one year into the story, and 26 chapters are available to read. Two couples are slowly getting to know each other, and I’m even thinking about adding a third couple.
I finally know my path with the story.
Which is why I made the big decision to change the title and the cover.
I had a lot of fun designing this cover. Hand-lettering is my favorite pastime.
Taking Chances is a small-town romance and yup, it does include food love. There’s a strawberry basil crumble I need to try. I think Jules had the idea.
If you’ve been following me for a while, then I’m sure you’re not surprised to see the serial is most definitely a small-town romance. It’s my favorite thing to write. It’s also my favorite to watch.
If you’re new here, first, welcome! But, also, yes, if you browse through my books, you’ll find most of them are small-town romance stories.

Taking Chances Synopsis:
Some things can’t be denied.
Don’t hold back.
Take a chance.
When Jules’ best friend introduced her to the gorgeous new owner of the produce stand, something happened. His kind smile let her feel emotions she’d bottled up inside for two years.
Olly has managed to avoid relationships for way too long. When he met Jules, he didn’t even think about the possibilities. His mom did, though.
Lola and Ryan are the very definition of yin and yang, but a moment of kismet is about to change all their plans.
They’re ready to explore beyond the instant attraction.
Taking Chances is a small-town romance serial. New chapters are added monthly.
Just like your favorite TV series, characters will come and go.
The best part about the serial is that you decide what happens next.
At the end of every chapter, you’ll find an author’s note with a question. Your answer will help me write the next chapter.
*Note: This serial will always be free.

Thank you for being on this journey with me. I’ve grown so much since I started the serial. Something I discovered, I look forward to writing the chapters. There’s a part of me that wants to commit to four new chapters a month, but I’m still on the fence.
Let me think about it. It would be fun. Right now, I’m anxious to see what happens next with Lola and Ryan. They have some serious chemistry.
Before I sign off, I wanted to share my friend's new release!
One hit ended my career. Now my heart’s on the line—and a shot with her is the only one that matters.
I built my career from nothing—earned every second of ice time, every “C” stitched to my jersey, and my place as first-line forward for the Charlotte Monarchs. Then a freak injury took me out of the game for good. Now I’m stuck behind the scenes, trying to figure out who I am without the sport that defined me.
Volunteering at the children’s hospital helps.
At least it did—until I saw her.
Bree Collins. The nurse I had one wild, unforgettable night with—the one who ghosted me without a word. And now she’s standing in the pediatric unit, gorgeous as ever, like the universe is messing with me and fate just queued up the world’s most awkward sequel.
I shouldn’t care. But I do.
Because she makes me feel something other than lost.
She’s guarding her heart. I’m holding on to a dream that’s already dead. But the spark between us never cooled off—and this time, I want more than just one night.
Can I prove to Bree—and myself—that I’m more than what I’ve lost? Or will the past pull us apart before I even get the chance?
If you love witty banter, one-night stands that get complicated, and stories that hit you right in the feels—you’ll fall hard for LOVE ME—the captivating first book in the Charlotte Monarchs Hockey series. It can be read as a standalone.

P.S. Just in case you missed it last week, here is the new YouTube Banana Bread video. The recipe shares how to use either all-purpose flour or whole-grain flour. Watch the video here. (I’m working on another video. I can’t wait to share it with you. It’s all about lemons!)
P.P.S. I almost forgot to share some cuteness overload. From that cute pose, Juno is telling us this summer heat is non va bene (no good)!
